Christiane Gross is a Senior Vice President and Property Underwriting Team Lead at Munich Reinsurance America, Inc. in Princeton, NJ. Christiane started her career with Munich Re in Germany in 2002, first in Munich’s Industrial Clients division and later in Munich’s Global Clients/ North America division, holding various property facultative and treaty underwriting positions.

Christiane relocated to Munich Re America in 2014 to service Regional Clients in the United States as a Property Treaty Underwriter. In 2018 she became a Team Lead for Property Facultative and Reinsurance Program business. She holds a degree in international business from the Reutlingen University in Germany. She is a member of the APIW and serves on the Board of the IRUA. Christiane held the position of Vice President of the IRUA as well as Co-Chair of the Education Committee prior to assuming the role of President in April 2025.

Dwayne Elliott, CPCU, ARe, is Vice President and Director of Underwriting at AmericanAg®. In this role, he is responsible for managing and providing oversight to the US domestic and international underwriting team in the company’s Broker Assumed division. Dwayne spent nearly 15 years at Nationwide Insurance, in positions that included Senior Accountant, Corporate Risk Management and Reinsurance Manager, and Financial Business Advisor. He went on to serve at American Electric Power in an Enterprise Risk Oversight role, and joined AmericanAg® in 2011. Dwayne earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Miami University.

Laura Herubin is a Senior Vice President and Property Underwriter with MAPFRE Re, North America.  She joined MAPFRE Re in 2002 as an Assistant Vice President.

Laura began her career with the Utica National Insurance Group in 1988 as an underwriting trainee.  She then joined Guy Carpenter, NY working in their statistical department.  She was an underwriter with NorthStar/Signet Star Re, an Associate Underwriter with TIG Re and an AVP with Gerling Global Re before joining MAPFRE Re.

Laura received her Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics with a concentration in Business/Economics from SUNY at Potsdam.  Laura is a member of the APIW and currently serves on the Board of Directors of the IRUA and is a member of the IRUA Education, Conference and Scholars Committees.

Tim Poeton currently holds the position of Senior VP Business Development at State National Companies.

Following a 15-year career as a reinsurance broker at Lloyd’s, principally in the North American arena, Tim was temporarily transferred to New York to close down an unprofitable broking subsidiary of Grieg Fester that was losing $2.8mm a year with 36 people. Within 18 months, Tim turned it around to profitability before being sold and then joining Sedgwick Re.

Following the acquisition of Sedgwick by Marsh/Guy Carpenter founded Cambridge Risk, in partnership, where the company specialized exclusively in the production and placement of MGA program business. This included the formation of a $7.5mm segregated cell captive in Bermuda which jointly took risk with MGA partners. The company was sold after four years and Tim joined GJ Sullivan Re still focusing on the program sector.

After 9 years at GJS Re, Tim joined State National Companies in 2015. His team responsibilities include the production of new business including the diligence process, overseeing the broker placement of MGA program reinsurance and the implementation of programs, as well as maintaining ongoing client and broker relationships.

State National Companies are the largest dedicated fronting carrier group approaching a 40- year history with seven operating companies and over a $1billion combined surplus.  In
2022, their GWP was c. $3 billion from 76 programs.

William Bernens is a Managing Director for Aviation, Workers Compensation, Casualty Clash and Property business. He joined Arch in 2004 and has worked in Underwriting and Risk Management roles at both Arch Reinsurance and Arch Capital Group. Prior to joining Arch, Bill was the Manager of Consulting Services at AIR Worldwide and served as an officer in the United States Navy. He has a dual master’s degree in Business Administration and Information Services from Boston University, and a bachelor’s degree from The Ohio State University. Nick Cook is Chief Risk Officer at Crum & Forster in the Morristown, NJ office. Danny Hojnowski is a Senior Vice President at TransRe in the Specialty Casualty Underwriting unit with a focus on E&O, D&O and Cyber treaties. During his 15 years at TransRe Danny has also worked in the facultative unit where he underwrote individual Professional Liability risks. In addition to working as an underwriter, he is responsible for monitoring TransRe’s aggregate exposure across their global Professional Liability book of business and in 2021 was named US D&O/E&O Treaty Department Manager. Danny was instrumental in implementing TransRe’s “Entity Data Analytics” which allows TransRe to analyze exposure and pricing across their portfolio by aggregating individual policy level details.

Emily Rudowitz has over 20 years of insurance and reinsurance experience, working in both private practice and serving as in-house counsel for various reinsurance companies. Emily began her career at the law firm of Mendes & Mount in 2000, where she handled a diverse range of direct and reinsurance matters. After becoming a Non-Equity Partner, Emily remained at Mendes until 2008, when she left to join Odyssey Re as Complex Claims Counsel.

Emily joined Ace Tempest Re as Contracts Counsel in 2009, working with the U.S. reinsurance group. In 2014, Emily assumed the position of Assistant General Counsel at Allied World Re, where she managed the legal, regulatory and contract needs of its global reinsurance operations.

Emily began her role at Acrisure Re as Global Head of Contracts in 2019, overseeing the Contracts team in North America and London and providing legal support across all Acrisure Re offices.  Emily earned her Juris Doctorate degree from Brooklyn Law School in 2000 and holds a Bachelor of Arts in Communications from the Pennsylvania State University.

Prior to Fathom Re, Zack served as a Vice President at BMS Re as part of the Public Entity and Property Cat practice groups following the acquisition of Trean Intermediaries LLC.

Steven G. Simmons previously held the position of Senior Vice President and Head of NY Working Property Treaty of Sirius International Managers, LLC. Sirius was renamed SiriusPoint following the February 2021 merger of Sirius Group and Third Point Reinsurance.

Mr. Simmons has over 29 years’ experience in the insurance/reinsurance industry of which the last four years have been with the Sirius Group (including Sirius America Insurance Company) (“Sirius”).

Prior to joining Sirius in 2016, Mr. Simmons spent 14 years at Partner Reinsurance Company in Greenwich, CT, where he was Senior Vice President and Senior Underwriter, responsible for the development and management of a $75 million individual property treaty portfolio.

Mr. Simmons began his career as Senior Accountant/Auditor with Ernst & Young, and later moved to XL (NAC Re), where he launched his career in reinsurance in the finance area, as Senior Auditor and Officer. He later transferred to underwriting as Property Facultative Underwriter and Officer in NAC Re’s Chicago branch office.

Mr. Simmons has earned the CPCU and ARe designations.  He holds a BBA from Iona College and is also a CPA.

She joined AmericanAg® in 2016 as an Associate International Underwriter; was promoted to Assistant Vice President, Underwriting & Marketing, in 2018; and assumed her current role in January 2024.

Ryan Walsh is Assistant Vice President of Reinsurance Underwriting at Grinnell Mutual Reinsurance Company, SI, based in Grinnell, Iowa, a role he assumed in 2023.

With over 26 years of experience in the reinsurance and insurance industry, Ryan began his career at ERC/Swiss Re in 1999, starting in accounting before transitioning into Underwriting. He later joined Rockhill Insurance Group, where he served as an Umbrella Underwriter and subsequently as a Home Office Referral Underwriter. In 2018, he returned to treaty reinsurance underwriting at EMC Reinsurance, ultimately serving as Reinsurance Underwriting Manager overseeing the Domestic Reinsurance portfolio.

He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance and Accounting from Kansas State University.

Carl Weinberger is originally from Stockholm, Sweden and graduated with a Master of Laws from the University of Stockholm. He started his career in the insurance industry in 1994 working for Gerling Konzern Allgemeine in Cologne, Germany. After 8 years on the insurance side, which allowed him to work in different Casualty Underwriting roles across the globe in Germany, Hong Kong, the US and Sweden, Carl moved into reinsurance in 2003, when he joined ERC/Frankona in Munich, Germany.

In 2006, Carl moved to the US working for Swiss Re. In 2011 he moved back to Europe to become Munich Re’s UK General Branch’s Casualty Manager in London, UK.

Carl has been back in the US since 2017 and currently holds the position of Senior Vice President and Casualty Underwriting Manager in the treaty area for Munich Re in Princeton

John’s career in insurance and reinsurance has spanned the spectrum from Accident and Health to Property, Casualty, Work Comp, Excess Work Comp, Occupational Accident.  Has worked as an intermediary, broker, claims analyst, and consultant in
multiple other capacities. John was previously with the Devonshire Group, Axa LM, Helix UK, Alan Gray, Inc and LDG Re.

John’s current focus is on Liability Runoff Transfer, Captive Insurance, Reinsurance Audits and Commutation.  Additionally, he participates or has participated at Director level for several non-profit organizations, including the IRUA, where he serves as the Co-Chair of the Education Committee.

Jim Wilson has over 40 years in reinsurance, starting in Claims and moving into Underwriting in 1995.  His tenure on the Underwriting side includes 9 years at Trenwick Re and 19  years at PartnerRe.

Jim started at PartnerRe in the Company’s Standard Lines Business Unit where he focused on multi-line and casualty business for regional and super regional clients.  In 2015, he transferred to the Casualty Unit where he focuses on Umbrella, Workers’ Compensation and Medical Malpractice lines of business.
